How to prevent and fix E3 and other errors on the Canadian Spa hot tub pump
Included with your EASY-SCALE™ kit are 2 screw-on caps, a pre-assembled flexible pipe, a preassembled pipe fitting and a sachet of Oust (or similar) descaling solution (Oust not supplied with non-UK orders due to shipping restrictions)
Always rinse your EASY-SCALE™ thoroughly with clean fresh water before and after use.
Descaling should always be done on a well drained surface such as a lawn to ensure no staining occurs.
We recommend OUST descaling solution.
Always use a suitable descaling solution or tablets and follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions.
Put the kettle on. Make a cuppa and read these instructions. Whilst you’re at it, fill a jug with some very warm (not boiling) water and pop the preassembled fitting and the end of the flexible pipe in there. It makes them malleable and easier to push into the pump when descaling.
Switch off pump. Cap off the inlet and outlet on the inside of the tub. Remove pump from the tub; unscrew all 3 pipes between the pump and the tub.
Remove fittings from the jug of water and attach your EASY-SCALE™ to the pump; The EASY-SCALE™ attaches to the left. Smear a little washing up liquid / cooking oil / Vaseline on the fittings that will be inserted into the pump. It makes them easier to remove once you’re done. The end of the flexible pipe goes into the one on the right, both using a pushing / twisting action. Screw the other end of the flexi pipe onto the single (front) bottom fitting of your EASY-SCALE™.
Make sure all fittings including caps are tightened, hand tight only. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN OR THIS WILL DAMAGE THE THREADS ON THE FITTINGS AND / OR YOUR EASY-SCALE™.
Fill EASY-SCALE™ to the top. Tilt the pump back to fill the pump with water, then top up the EASY-SCALE to around 2” from the top. Switch on pump and test for leaks. Tighten fittings, caps if necessary then add descaler solution (Oust or similar)
Run pump for a minimum of 30 minutes, longer if you want, on heat (30°C). *** Do not allow the pump temperature to exceed 40°C *** If you do, you’ll encounter an E3 (high temp) error. If this occurs, reset the RCD, switch back on and reduce the temperature accordingly. Whilst descaling, it is usual for the solution to go very milky. The milkier the solution, the more limescale you are removing.
Remove the lower cap to drain or tip the solution out with the EASY-SCALE™ attached to the pump into a suitable container or jug. Refit the cap if necessary, refill with clean fresh water and repeat step 6 for a minimum of 5 minutes.
Drain and remove the EASY-SCALE™ and fittings from the couplings. Pop the fitting in the EASY-SCALE™ ready for next time. Refit pump to hot tub. Remove caps from inside of tub. Switch on pump and enjoy once again!
Use 3-4 times a year to prolong the life of the pump and internal components.
More frequent / repeat treatments / leaving overnight may be needed in exceptionally hard water areas.
