How to prevent and fix an E02 and other errors on a Lay Z Spa Hydrojet (2016-2020 Model)
Included with your EASY-SCALE™ kit are 2 screw-on caps, 2 screw-on hose fittings, 2 short and 2 long pieces of pipe, a meshed filter (see #5 below) and a sachet of Oust (or similar) descaling solution.
(Oust not supplied with non-UK orders due to shipping restrictions).
Always rinse your EASY-SCALE™ thoroughly with clean fresh water before and after use.
Descaling should always be done on a well drained surface such as a lawn to ensure no staining occurs.
We recommend OUST descaling solution. Always use a suitable descaling solution or tablets and follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions.
Cap off the inlet and outlet on the inside of the tub. Switch off your pump and remove from the tub.
For configurations A and C, carefully remove the white fitting and / or the black seal (attached by three small screws) on one or both housings.
Push pipes onto fittings. Use the chart opposite to determine the length of pipe you need.
Leave the hose fittings attached to the main body of the descaler - this will require some force and likely WILL NOT come off once assembled so ensure you're putting the correct ones on.
Remove the fittings from the descaler. Fill a jug with some very warm (not boiling) water and pop the 2 now assembled fittings / pipes in there for a few minutes. It makes them malleable and easier to push into the pipes when descaling. Push and slightly twist the pipes into the hot tub pump.
Reattach the fittings to the descaler by screwing the hose fittings onto the threads of the EASY-SCALE™. You’ll notice that your EASY-SCALE™ kit includes a meshed filter (already installed in the bottom boss) its purpose is to control flow. If you find your pump is struggling, simply drain and remove the washer by removing both the lower cap and fitting and push it out with a pencil or similar.
Fill EASY-SCALE™ with water to the top, tilt the pump back to fill the pump with water, and top up. Switch on pump. Test for leaks, tighten fittings if necessary. Add descaler (Oust or similar) Run pump for a minimum of 30 minutes on heat (30°C). *** Do not allow the pump (water) temperature to exceed 40°C *** If you do, you’ll encounter an E03 and / or E08 (high temp) error. If this occurs, reset the RCD, switch back on, carry out a thermal reset on the pump (push the button in the middle of the pump) and reduce the temperature accordingly.
After the descaling cycle is complete, drain EASY-SCALE™ into a jug by removing the front cap. Reattach cap and refill with clean fresh water and repeat for a minimum of 5 minutes. Drain again.
Remove descaler and pipes. Pop the now assembled pipes in the descaler ready for next time. Reassemble the white inner-housing pieces and black seals (if applicable) and refit pump to hot tub.
Switch on pump and enjoy once again!
Use 3-4 times a year to prolong the life of the pump and internal components.
More frequent / repeat treatments / leaving overnight may be needed in exceptionally hard water areas there is no such thing as over-descaling a hot tub pump.
